The handshake is common in the U.S., especially in business. The first two photos demonstrate how to properly engage a handshake. The third photo shows a weak handshake. Don't give a limp, weak handshake!
A proper handshake:
Comes with eye contact
Is firm
Lasts about 3 seconds
Doesn't continue through the entire introduction
You shake when...
Someone offers his/her hand to you
First meeting someone
Greeting guests
Greeting your host/hostess
Renewing an acquaintance
Saying good-bye
Tip: When you are at a dinner, keep your drink in your left hand to avoid giving someone a wet, cold handshake.
